I've been a professional basketball coach for over 30 years. In 2012, we decided to send my eldest son, Barış Ülker, to the United States so he could pursue both his sports and his education. Due to the differences between sports in our country and the US, and the much better organization of education and sports coordination in the US, we sent Barış to high school during his freshman year. We now understand even more clearly that we chose a very beneficial path for his personal development and athletic career. My son played on teams that played in European Championships, from the U15 to U20 national teams, and continued to build solid foundations in both his high school and university education.
